For sure 10 days are not enough for this paradise, but that was the time we got so.. we made the most of it!
When to visit the Philippines?
The Philippines has a hot and humid tropical climate with a wet season from May to October and a dry season from November to April. The best time to visit is during the dry season, although even during the wet season you can be lucky and days can be hot and sunny. Matteo and I went to the Philippines in April and found the perfect weather throughout our visit!
Which islands should you visit if you have only 10 days?
We visited 2 islands: Cebu and Palawan
This is the island we loved the most! Why? Because it’s less famous than Palawan and consequently less touristic.
Where to sleep
We spent 4 nights at the amazing Fantasy lodge. It is a 5 hours ride to get there but it’s completely worth it! (You can arrange a car directly with them). Why should you go at Fantasy Lodge? It’s surrounded by nature, it offers an outdoor pool, a private beach area, it’s cheap and close to the major attractions ! Also is one of the few places in the Philippines left where you can try the traditional Kawa Hot Bath.
We rent a scooter at the Fantasy Lodge for just 5 euro. There is only one road so you’re not gonna loose yourselves and you’ll have a glimpse on locals’ lifestyle.
What to do
Waterfalls in this area are pretty famous. The most beautiful are:
The Kawasan Falls are the most famous and crowded so unless you wake up at 5 in the morning you won’t enjoy this place, or at least we didn’t enjoy it at all! I would suggest you to go anyway, hike to the upper side and see the view from above.
The Anguinid Falls are the best choice we ever made! Not only they are beautiful but you’ll have so much fun climbing them. And you don’t have to worry about anything since you’ll be escorted by 2 guides (it’s mandatory) that will help you during the way.
Also for the Dao Falls you’ll be escorted (always mandatory). We’ve been escorted by two little girls.
What else can you do in Cebu?
You can do many other activities such as swimming with millions of sardines, swimming with turtles if you’re lucky to meet them, swimming with whale sharks (it’s quite touristic) and go to Sumilon Island, a slice of paradise! (we arrange everything with Fantasy Lodge)
Sumilon Island It is the best day trip you can do when exploring the southern region of Cebu. You can also choose to stay overnight in the only accomodation on the island, the Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort
Where to eat: we always ate at Fantasy Lodge; they cook seafood or filipino dishes and they prepare amazing fresh juices and cocktails!
Palawan is the fifth largest island of the country and also the most famous!
First place in Palawan we’ve been to is the insane beatiful Coron! If you don’t have enough time, from Cebu (Lapu-Lapu) you can take a direct flight to Coron (Busuanga) on skyscanner! (it’s just one hour and 25 minutes) otherwise you can take the ferryboat.
Where to sleep
We spent 2 nights in this incredible hut in the jungle Ecocio. Yeah, i know, it’s not for everybody but if you’re inclined to experience something different we strongly recommend this place! It’s eco-friendly and extremely cheap! If you prefer to stay in an hotel we heard good things about La Natura Resort!
What to do
The best thing to do in Coron is to take an island hopping tour (you can go ask in the little town and choose between different companies! We suggest you to enter in several ones, ask for the prices so you can then choose what’s better for you!) They most famous places are Kayangan Lake and Twins Lagoons.
Where to eat
Since we just stayed two nights we tried 2 places. First night we went to Levine’s, it has a nice terrace with an amazing view so we suggest you to go at sunset time! The other one we tried is great for the food Get Real Bar & Restaurant. For a nice place to chill and have a coffee or breakfast we recommend Summer Cafe & Bar.
So many years I’ve been dreaming about this place and it exceed expectations!
To get here from Coron we took the ferryboat (is about 5 hours)
Where to sleep
If you look for a special and cheap place, we spent 2 nights at the Outpost Beach hostel (we took the privare room). Is right in front of the sea and you will never forget the sunsets you’ll witness here. They also cook great food from breakfast to dinner!
For our last night we decided to treat us with the Cadlao Resort & Restaurant! They have two of the most amazing pools in El Nido so if you’re a pool lover this is the right place for you!
What to do
As for Coron, the most common thing to do in El Nido is the island hopping so you can go and see the beauty of both Big Lagoon and Small Lagoon and other hidden spots.
Also we had the most amazing lunch of our lives!
Where to eat: we decided to always eat at our hostel and hotel.
The Philippines have a place in our heart not only for their beauty but also for the people! We hope to come back soon to see more.
